India’s two-wheeler retail market recorded strong year-on-year growth in August 2026, with total registrations reaching 17,14,610 units. This was an increase of 19.69% over 14,32,537 units registered in August 2025. However, the market slowed on a sequential basis. Compared to 18,18,289 units sold in July 2026, two-wheeler retail declined 5.70% MoM, representing a reduction of 1,03,679 units.
2W Retail Sales Aug 2026
Honda retained the top position with retail sales of 4,47,342 units, up 19.97% YoY from 3,72,867 units. It commanded a market share of 26.09%. However, Honda sales declined 4.76% compared to 4,69,687 units sold in July. Hero was second with 4,13,996 units, registering 18.61% YoY growth. Its August market share stood at 24.15%. Compared to July sales of 4,40,662 units, Hero recorded a 6.05% MoM decline.
2W Retail Sales Aug 2026 – YoY
TVS continued to post stronger YoY growth than its two larger rivals. Retail sales increased 25.29% YoY from 2,82,347 units to 3,53,746 units. TVS secured a 20.63% market share in August. Sequentially, however, sales were down 5.44%. Combined, Honda, Hero and TVS accounted for more than 70% of India’s two-wheeler retail market during the month.
Bajaj Declines MoM, Royal Enfield Up 23% YoY
Bajaj registered 1,57,149 units, representing YoY growth of 15.27%. It was among the bigger MoM decliners in the top group, with retail falling 12.78% from 1,80,183 units in July. Suzuki was one of the few brands to record growth on both parameters. Its August retail sales stood at 1,04,217 units, up 8.35% YoY and 1.51% MoM.
2W Retail Sales Aug 2026 – MoM
Royal Enfield followed with 94,448 units, registering a healthy 23.45% YoY growth. Sales were almost flat sequentially, declining by just 0.66%. Yamaha registered 62,375 units, up 13.06% YoY but down 7.98% MoM.
Ather Grows 50%, Ola Declines
Among electric two-wheeler manufacturers, Ather registered 28,757 units, representing strong growth of 49.70% YoY. Sales were nevertheless down 5.27% compared to July. Ola Electric was the only manufacturer in the listed rankings to report a YoY decline. Retail fell 28.83%, from 19,464 units in August 2025 to 13,852 units in August 2026. Ola was also down 1.80% MoM.
Fuel wise 2W sales Aug 2026
Smaller EV manufacturers posted significantly higher YoY growth from their lower bases. Greaves/Ampere sales increased 88.59% to 8,613 units, while River EV jumped 170.15% to 5,141 units. BGauss registered 4,845 units, representing growth of 180.22%.
Electric Two Wheeler Share Crosses 10%
Another notable development was the changing fuel mix. Electric two-wheelers accounted for 10.68% of total retail sales in August 2026, significantly higher than 7.66% in August 2025. EV share, however, eased from 11.24% in July 2026.
Petrol/ethanol models continued to dominate with an 89.23% share, although this was down substantially from 92.10% a year earlier. CNG/LPG two-wheelers accounted for just 0.08%, compared to 0.25% in August 2025. Overall, August was a strong month on a YoY basis, with every listed manufacturer except Ola recording growth. But the 5.70% sequential decline indicates that retail momentum moderated compared to July.
