Upcoming Honda Cars – 0-Alpha Based SUV

Honda has recently commenced the testing of its upcoming 0 Alpha-based electric SUV in India. Previously, the brand was adamant about launching this model by the end of this year; now that testing has begun, we expect it to launch by year-end.

As the brand’s first electric SUV, it boasts a tall, boxy design with a wide stance. Expected features include a triple-screen setup, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, powered and ventilated front seats, and more. By dimensions, this SUV will likely compete with the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti eVitara, Hyundai Creta electric, and a few others.

Regarding pricing, we expect the model to range from Rs 18 lakh to Rs 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

New Compact SUV

To take advantage of the new GST norms, the brand plans to launch a compact SUV in India. This model will rival the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO,  Maruti Brezza, Skoda Kylaq and others.

The Japanese automaker has not yet revealed any key details about the model; however, we expect it to be based on Honda’s global small car platform and to boast the feature suite from the Amaze.

The powertrain details of this Honda’s upcoming Tata Nexon rival are under wraps. That said, it could either feature the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine from the Amaze, adopt an electric powertrain, or both. Now, even though the 1.2-litre NA petrol will help the model to fit under the new GST norms and have a lower price, it will differ from the rivals as those get a turbo petrol engine.  Regarding launch, we expect the model to launch by FY 2027, with an expected price ranging between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Upcoming Honda Cars – New Mid-Size SUV

Along with the compact SUV, Honda has also stressed introducing a new mid-size SUV in the country. Now, this could either be a new nameplate, brought from the international market or an update to Elevate.

If it could be a new nameplate for India, we could see some names like WR-V on the list. We are saying WR-V because it gets a hybrid powertrain, which the Elevate will miss. Honda doesn’t plan to offer a hybrid powertrain for the Elevate. If it’s the Elevate update, we could see changes to the equipment list and some cosmetic changes.

More details about this SUV are expected to be revealed as soon as Honda begins its testing phase.

Honda Prelude

The Prelude will be brought later this year via the CBU route. It is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain. With the Prelude, you would get great driving dynamics along with healthy fuel efficiency figures.

The global-spec model comes with features such as an ADAS suite, a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, a wireless charger, Dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats, and a 10.2-inch driver’s display. We expect a feature list similar to that of the Indian model. Being a CBU, it could be quite pricey, so expect a price tag of around Rs 70-80 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
