Chery T1TP SUV Version Patented
Earlier this year, Chery had trademarked the double cab pickup version of the T1TP shape shifting concept in India
Chery has filed multiple patents in India in recent months following its collaboration with JSW Motors. The list includes names like Chery Tiggo 8, Jetour T2 PHEV, QQ3 EV, Tiggo 7L and the T1TP pickup. These are likely part of JSW Motors’ portfolio expansion plans, where the brand is aiming to introduce 15 NEV models in four years. In the latest development, Chery has patented the SUV version of the T1TP concept.

One of the key USPs of Chery T1TP shape shifting concept is its ability to manually transform into different exterior and interior configurations. This is made possible with a set of specialised modular equipment such as adjustable dividers, quick release rear panels and detachable rear roof/canopy. With the rear canopy in place, the vehicle functions like a large 7-seat SUV. This design has now been patented in India.
Chery had earlier patented the double-cab pickup version of the Chery T1TP concept in India. This version can be created by removing the rear roof/canopy module and the third row seats. With these customizations, a decent-sized cargo bed is created. It can be used for carrying a wide variety of cargo items. Chery T1TP shape shifting concept can also transform into a camper. This is achieved with a range of camping accessories such as slide-out awnings, pop-up roof tents and exterior utility pods.

By filing separate patents for each body type, the design can be legally protected in a better way. It fixes loopholes that could arise due to the modular, shape shifting nature of the platform. This approach is also necessary since there are different rules for registration and taxation, based on the vehicle classification. If current rules don’t allow such advanced modular structures, there will be an option to launch the pickup and the SUV versions as separate models.
Chery T1TP concept – Performance, features
Official specifications of the production model based on the T1TP concept have not been revealed. However, it is known that T1TP will be equipped with the brand’s CSH (Chery Super Hybrid) PHEV tech. In that case, the powertrain could be the same as currently in use with Tiggo 8. This powertrain comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, integrated with dual electric motors.
Combined output is 352 bhp and 515 Nm. Dimensionally, the Chery T1TP concept is around 4.9 meters long. This makes it slightly longer than Chery’s flagship Tiggo 9 SUV that is around 4.82 meters long. Chery T1TP utilizes a monocoque (unibody) car platform, which can be seen with various other passenger crossover models from Chery.

While other Chery models like the Jetour T2 are closer to launch in India, the T1TP-based production versions can take a bit longer. All Chery models will be launched under a new brand, which will be unveiled by JSW Motors around Diwali. Jetour T2 is expected to be the first model and its bookings could commence from November. Deliveries are expected around the end of December 2026. JSW Motors will be introducing 2-3 models in the first year, expanding to 15 NEVs in four years.
