Hybrid cars have become the talk of the town. All automakers are working on hybrid technology to cater for the mileage-loving Indian market. Jaecoo J5 Expected Mileage

Jaecoo J5 EV Used For Reference

Internationally, the Jaecoo J5 is sold in three variants: petrol, petrol-hybrid, and EV. In India, only the HEV and EV versions are expected. We can make an educated guess about the Indian-spec by looking at the global models.

The HEV is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 1.83kWh battery pack and a single front-mounted electric motor. Its power output stands at 221bhp & 295Nm. As for the mileage, it has a claimed fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100km in urban conditions and 6.9 l/100km in extra-urban conditions. These numbers translate to 26.32 km/l and 14.5 km/h. The combined efficiency is 5.6 l/100km or 17.9 km/l. These figures are quite low considering the Grand Vitara hybrid offers 28 km/l. Keep in mind that the testing standards may vary between the international and Indian markets.

Jaecoo J5 – What Else?

On the feature front, it is expected to be offered with amenities such as level-2 ADAS, passive entry, 7 airbags, power-adjustable and heated ORVMs, ventilated front seats, 6-way powered front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-speaker sound system, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, and an 8.88-inch digital driver’s display.

It is expected to be priced between Rs 18-26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), making it one of the more affordable HEVs in the market. It is expected to be launched by early 2027 and would compete against the likes of Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Toyota Hyryder, etc.
