RE Himalayan 411 – Image for reference only
With the introduction of Sherpa 450 engine, automotive fraternity and motorcycling enthusiasts thought it was the end of older LS410 engine seen in Himalayan 411 and Scram 411. Himalayan 450 even replaced Himalayan 411, but Scram 411 was not replaced by Guerrilla 450. Instead, Royal Enfield updated Scram with a bigger 440cc engine and launched Scram 440 last year.
This Scram 440 retained the old design, but got meaningful updates in the form of bigger engine, 6-speed gearbox and others. Now, similar treatment will be given to Himalayan lineup and Royal Enfield is set to revive its old ADV in the form of Himalayan 440, which could launch as early as next month, September 2026.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launch
The popular Himalayan lineup from Royal Enfield is about to be expanded with a more affordable version. Currently, Scram 440 Top variant costs Rs 2.32 lakh (Ex-sh), while Himalayan 450’s top variant costs Rs 3.39 lakh (Ex-sh). There is some wiggle room around Rs 2.5 lakh (Ex-sh), where upcoming Himalayan 450 can be positioned.
In terms of engines, Himalayan 411 and Scram 411 were identical and same could be the case with Himalayan 440 and Scram 440. Currently, Scram 440’s LS440 engine has a 3mm larger bore than before, giving it 440cc displacement. This engine is rated at 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, an upgrade over 5-speed unit before.
Royal Enfield LS 440 engine
On paper, performance gain does not blow one’s socks off, but the new LS440 engine on Scram 440 is significantly better than LS410. We experienced this engine last year in Goa and offers a relaxed riding experience than people missed in the Himalayan 450’s Sherpa 450 liquid-cooled engine.
What to expect?
Visually, upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 might look similar to old Himalayan with its barebones approach. It might retain the 21-inch front wheel and offer an option for alloy wheels like we saw in Scram 440. 200mm suspension travel, 15L fuel tank, off-road tyres, tall windscreen and other attributes from old Himalayan could be carried forward.
One thing we wished Royal Enfield updated, is the instrument cluster. We wished the Tripper screen is part of the standard fitment. Also, we wish Royal Enfield gave upcoming Himalayan 440 Tripper Dash TFT cluster from Himalayan 450 for music control, Google Maps mirroring and other functionalities.
Royal Enfield was known to be a manufacturer of classic and retro Roadster and Cruiser bikes. There have been a few exclusives like Continental GT 535 in 2013. In 2016, Royal Enfield did something special and launched Himalayan 411, which immediately became India’s favourite ADV Tourer and Off-roader. The legacy continues with Himalayan 450, but could be expanded with Himalayan 440 next month and then Himalayan 750.
