In October 2025, Kia took the plunge and launched a CNG-equipped version of the Carens. It wasn’t a surprising move, given Kia’s sister brand, Hyundai, is already one of the biggest players in CNG cars. However, to our surprise, Kia did not simply borrow Hyundai’s tech. Instead, they launched a dealer-level retrofitted kit for the Carens, sourced from Lovato. The CNG kit came with a 3-year/1,00,000 kms third-party warranty and was launched at an additional price of Rs 77,900. Kia CNG Cars Confirmed
A few months ago, Kia finally confirmed it was developing factory-fitted CNG models as part of its multi-powertrain strategy for India. This confirms that alongside hybrid models and new EVs, we will also see CNG versions of existing models.

Which Kia Model will get CNG next?
Now, given that models like the Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Brezza – essentially key rivals of the Kia Sonet – are already available with CNG options, it makes sense for Kia to roll out a CNG version of the Sonet soon, given the fuel’s popularity in the segment. Moreover, the ongoing E20 debate has only increased the sales of CNG-powered cars.
Whenever it arrives, we expect the CNG to be introduced on the Sonet’s 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. While the fuel efficiency will be higher than the standard petrol model, the Sonet CNG’s power output will definitely go down a bit.

Kia Sonet CNG Turbo?
There is one more possibility. The Nexon iCNG is currently the only CNG SUV in India available with a turbocharged engine. Kia could take it head-on by launching the Sonet CNG with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The added benefit? The turbo Sonet is available with six-speed iMT and seven-speed DCT gearbox options, whereas the NA petrol Sonet is available only with a five-speed manual.

Kia Sonet CNG Pricing & Launch
We are yet to get an exact confirmation about the Sonet CNG’s launch timeline. Logically, it makes sense for it to arrive first before any other Kia CNG model. However, Kia may have other plans. It will also be interesting to see how Kia prices its factory-fitted CNG kit.
