New Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Launching In India: How Is It?

Indians love muscular SUVs; give us an SUV that has beefy bumpers, chunky side cladding, big tyres, and a hefty grille – it will surely pass the design acceptance. The Land Cruiser FJ has all that. Picture it like a Fortuner, without the third-row seats, a compact, boxy design, but with the bold, muscular look. Looks like the LC FJ could have an affordable price tag, which might even make this Toyota SUV bring in more sales than the Fortuner.

However, there’s a big compromise. The Land Cruiser FJ is reportedly missing a diesel engine. A 2.7-litre NA petrol engine powers the Land Cruiser. The 164 bhp engine paired with a six-speed AT works well – but it’s a gas guzzler. Moreover, the current market is obsessed with hybrids for their efficiency. So, Toyota could also offer a hybrid powertrain with its new off-roader.

Interior

We miss the old-school interior, as all new-age SUVs come with dashboards that hide behind multiple screens, all the controls in the infotainment system, and whatnot. The Land Cruiser FJ, on the other hand, brings out the old-school characteristics with a modern design. The international model features a 12.5-inch infotainment screen, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, a digital driver’s display, and more. Also, unlike other modern cars, you won’t need to navigate to the infotainment unit for basic car controls, as physical controls are present. Overall, the cabin keeps its rugged qualities.

Launch Timeline & Expected Price

TToyota has yet to reveal the exact launch timeline for this model in India. However, we expect it to launch around the end of 2027 or early 2028. That’s surely a long time to wait, but we think it would be worth it. Speaking of the pricing, expect this ‘mini Fortuner’ to be priced between Rs. 30 lakh and Rs. 45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
