For reasons still unknown, Honda has always been the last to jump on a trend. For example, Hyundai launched the Creta in 2015. Honda’s answer is the Elevate, launched in 2023. Once again, a similar journey is being traced in the seven-seater SUV segment. After brands like Mahindra, Tata, and even MG firmly established their dominance in the segment, Honda is now reportedly working on a made-in-India seven-seater SUV. Here’s what to expect from it.Attention Readers! Join us on our WhatsApp Community for daily auto news updates.

New Honda 7-Seater SUV India Launch Soon

This SUV will clearly be positioned above the Elevate. We also know it will be based on Honda’s new modular PF2 platform, being developed to accommodate multiple top hats and powertrain options. Though this platform is being planned for use across the globe, India will be its production base.

Honda’s R&D centres in Japan and Thailand are leading the development of this seven-seater SUV, with plenty of input from the India team. It means India will most likely be this SUV’s main market.

Engine Options

Earlier, it was assumed Honda might use the Elevate’s 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with hybrid tech (the same unit found in the City) in this new seven-seater. However, now that the ZR-V is also on sale in India with an imported 2.0-litre NA strong hybrid engine, we think Honda could localise this engine and use it in the upcoming SUV. Of course, no confirmed details are out yet. This is just our calculated guess.

New Honda 7-Seater SUV: Expected Price & Rivals

Honda has multiple models in the pipeline for India. However, details of this new SUV are yet to be revealed. We expect the new Honda SUV to launch sometime in the last quarter of 2027. The expected price band will be between Rs. 17 lakh and Rs. 28 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched, it will compete with segment favourites like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV.
