2026 Mahindra Thar 3-Door Launching Tomorrow
Previously, we caught spy shots of the new Thar, which confirmed Mahindra’s plan to update it. Over the past few days, Mahindra started posting official teasers of the SUV. According to our sources, Mahindra will most likely launch the new Thar tomorrow, though an official date is yet to be released. In the meantime, here’s what we know about the changes on the upcoming SUV.
Will Look More Like The Thar Roxx
Thar 3-Door was updated just last year in October. That update focused on adding more creature comforts like a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, a new steering wheel, rear AC vents, a rear wiper and washer, and improving the SUV’s ergonomics. There were barely any visual changes. This time, based on what we have seen on the prototypes and teasers, it looks like the Thar is headed for a substantial makeover.
On the exterior, the 2026 Thar is expected to get new LED headlamps (could be the same as Roxx, with C-shaped DRLs), a new Roxx-inspired grille, a slimmer but contoured front bumper, a revised fog lamp housing, and a bit of cladding extending from the fenders towards the bottom of the headlamps. Major panels like the bonnet, roof, and doors could be left unchanged. Expected rear changes include revised LED taillamps and a new bumper. The other big change is the new set of five-spoke alloy wheels.
Engine and Features
We do not expect any engine upgrades or changes with this facelift. So, expect the Thar 3-door to continue with the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel, and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol options.
Features like a sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, a wireless phone charger and a 360-degree camera have been missing since the car was launched. In this update, we expect a few, if not all, of these features to be added to the Thar’s list.
Will The 2026 Mahindra Thar Get A New Platform?
The current Thar is built on Mahindra’s 3rd-generation (3G) body-on-frame platform. It is not officially confirmed, but rumours suggest that the 2026 model could be based on the newer 4th-generation M-Glyde platform found in the Thar Roxx. If so, expect significant changes in drive quality. Moreover, this update could also introduce electric power steering. It would be a welcome update, given the steering’s current heaviness.
Price
The current Thar 3-Door is priced from Rs. 12.50 lakh to Rs. 21.88 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It is hard to predict the price increase yet, but we expect an estimated increase of Rs. 50,000 across variants.
