BMW i5 LWB India Launch
BMW India has launched i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) at an introductory price of Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This is BMW India’s first locally assembled electric sedan and will be manufactured at BMW Group Plant Chennai. Deliveries commence immediately.
The i5 LWB is offered in eDrive35L M Sport specification. BMW also introduced a limited First Edition at the same Rs 79.60 lakh price, with all 99 units already sold out before the official launch. In comparison, the ICE BMW 5 Series is sold in India at Rs 76.60 lakh, ex-sh in sole petrol 2.0 liter 530 Li config.

BMW i5 LWB – Bigger Focus On Rear Seat Comfort
At 5,175 mm long, 2,156 mm wide and 1,520 mm tall, i5 LWB has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. BMW claims it is the largest car in its segment, with the additional length and wheelbase helping create more space for rear-seat occupants.
Design highlights include BMW Iconic Glow illumination around the kidney grille, Adaptive LED headlights, flush door handles and 20-inch M alloy wheels. It also gets a revised Hofmeister kink with an embossed ‘5’ and slim LED tail lamps.

Four exterior colours are available – Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black and Oxide Grey. A key addition for India is adaptive rear-axle air suspension, which is aimed at improving ride comfort. BMW has also increased ground clearance to better suit Indian road conditions.
81.6 kWh Battery, 669 Km Range
Powering BMW i5 eDrive35L is a rear-mounted electric powertrain producing 268 hp and 410 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195 km/h. An 81.6 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed MIDC range of up to 669 km.

This gives i5 LWB one of its biggest talking points, combining a chauffeur-oriented long-wheelbase layout with a relatively long claimed driving range. The EV supports up to 160 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 10-80% in a claimed 33 minutes. An 11 kW BMW Wallbox charger and installation are included with the car.
Loaded With Comfort And Technology
Inside, i5 LWB gets BMW Curved Display comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. BMW Operating System 8.5, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Digital Key Plus and connected-car functionality are offered.

Other highlights include ventilated front comfort seats, four-zone climate control, vegan Veganza upholstery, Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, CraftedClarity crystal controls and Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system. Wireless charging trays are provided at the front as well as in the rear armrest.
The rear cabin is a major focus of i5 LWB, with additional cushioning and legroom aimed at chauffeur-driven customers. The sold-out First Edition adds a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, open-pore wood trim and ‘FIRST EDITION’ engraving. It also gets Carbon Black Metallic paint with Titanium Bronze exterior accents.

Safety And Driver Assistance
BMW i5 LWB comes with eight airbags and a comprehensive driver assistance package. Features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking via smartphone, Lane Change Warning, Cross Traffic Warning, Front and Rear Collision Warning and Exit Warning.
BMW already offers several locally assembled luxury cars and SUVs in India, and i5 LWB now becomes its first locally produced electric sedan. At Rs 79.60 lakh, i5 LWB also brings BMW’s long-wheelbase strategy to the electric executive sedan space, combining a 3,105 mm wheelbase, rear air suspension and up to 669 km of claimed MIDC range.
