Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Automatic
We came across a video in which a Mahindra XUV 3XO owner modified his brand-new car by adding a CNG kit. The SUV in the video is powered by a 1.2-litre MPFi turbo petrol engine, paired with an automatic gearbox. As per the modifier, only MPFi turbo engines are permitted for retrofitted CNG, and not the TGDi engines.
The modifier claimed that the wires are soldered and that couplers have not been used, as those might come loose. We can also see a 12kg CNG tank installed in the boot, which reduced the available boot space. The modifier claimed the car’s boot is only suitable for carrying small luggage post the CNG tank installation. The modifier also claimed a nearly 70% increase in mileage with CNG. The complete installation costs Rs. 46,000, which also covers RC endorsement.
Owner’s Experience
The modifier also asked the SUV owner about his impressions of the modification. The owner stated he had doubts about whether a CNG kit could be installed on an automatic SUV, but his final experience was quite positive. The owner claimed the car drove the same with the modification as before. He added that the gear shifts were smooth, with no lag. Moreover, the owner was also happy to get better fuel mileage.
Note
While installing a CNG kit might significantly reduce your running costs, there are some compromises to consider. Installing an aftermarket CNG kit can affect your manufacturer’s warranty, reduce boot space, and might also affect the long-term reliability and refinement if the installation is not carried out properly.
That said, Motoroctane does not promote this CNG installation. If you are planning to do this modification, it should be at your own risk.
