New Plug-in Hybrid SUV India Launch Soon
Long back, CNG was the fuel everyone was looking at when we talked about low-cost running. That’s changing now, as India has already welcomed one and will welcome more plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars and SUVs. While the JSW MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV has already made its debut, making Indians aware of PHEV tech, there’s one more SUV lined up that will soon make its debut with the same tech, and indeed, better mileage.

BYD was recently snapped testing its new plug-in hybrid SUV, the Seal U, in India. This is the second time the model has been spotted ahead of its launch, as it tests its PHEV tech and range. Plug-In Hybrid Tech Does All The Talking
The main highlight of this SUV is its mileage. For that, it uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an 18.3 kWh battery pack, with power delivered by dual electric motors. With this setup, the model is claimed to deliver 20.80 km/l in petrol mode. The hybrid setup can deliver an overall range of up to 1,080 km, with an electric-only range of up to 126 km.
For those with a short commute, this SUV could deliver around 30 km/l, since most driving would be in EV-only mode. Basically, with its hybrid setup, the SUV would offer the best of both worlds. While the claimed figures here are from the global-spec model, the brand has said it plans to improve this powertrain. This may result in different outputs and range figures for the India-spec BYD Seal U.
