Best Mileage SUV

Nissan recently tested the new Qashqai with its latest-generation e-POWER system. And the result was quite exciting: the SUV completed a 1,980km run on a single tank without any external charging or refuelling. Nissan achieved this feat under real-world driving conditions rather than in controlled laboratory tests, which automakers generally use.

Now, the Japanese automaker has not officially quoted the fuel economy achieved during this, but based on this SUV’s 55-litre fuel tank, the mileage comes to around 36 km/l.

Nissan Qashqai’s New World Record

This journey took place in Colombia between 14th – 17th July 2026, covering from Bogota to the Caribbean coast. This route consisted of a mix of highways, city traffic, and different road conditions. The combination of smooth driving inputs and efficient speed management by the drivers helped to maximise the potential of the e-POWER system, resulting in achieving this feat.

This journey has now been called the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in-extended-range electric SUV without external charging or refuelling.

What’s Different In This Setup

Compared to the conventional hybrid setup, where both the petrol engine and electric motor drive the wheels, in the e-POWER setup, the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor. Here, the petrol engine acts as a generator, producing electricity to recharge the battery and power the electric motor. Combined, all this helps increase the vehicle’s overall efficiency.

Will Nissan Introduce This In India?

At present, Nissan does not offer e-POWER technology in India. However, the brand has already confirmed multiple new model launches over the next few years. If any of these upcoming models are equipped with this new setup, it will be an attractive offer for buyers seeking a high-mileage car.
