New Mitsubishi Pajero
Mitsubishi has unveiled the all-new Pajero, bringing one of its most iconic SUV nameplates into a new generation. Positioned as Mitsubishi’s new flagship, new Pajero retains the fundamentals associated with the name – ladder-frame construction, diesel power and serious 4WD hardware – while adding significantly more technology, comfort and premium features.
New Pajero will be manufactured in Thailand, where it will also go on sale first. Japan and Australia will follow during FY2026, while Mitsubishi plans to introduce the SUV in around 100 countries across ASEAN, Latin America, the Middle East and other regions from FY2027 onwards.

The comeback is significant considering fourth-generation Pajero arrived around two decades ago. Across four generations, Mitsubishi has produced more than 3.29 million Pajeros, with the SUV reaching over 170 countries and regions.
New Pajero Design Retains Familiar DNA
Mitsubishi describes new Pajero’s design theme as “Grand Charisma”. While significantly more modern than its predecessor, there are deliberate references to earlier generations.

The upright proportions and strong horizontal lines take inspiration from original Pajero, while pronounced fenders give new SUV a wider and more substantial appearance. At the front are distinctive T-shaped headlights along with two available grille designs – horizontal bars or a honeycomb pattern.
The C-pillar draws inspiration from the roll-bar design of first-generation Pajero. At the rear, Mitsubishi has incorporated a hexagonal design element inspired by the externally mounted spare wheel seen on earlier models.

Two highlight exterior colours are Armor Copper Metallic and Phantom Blue Metallic. In terms of dimensions, new Pajero measures 4,920 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,910 mm tall, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 230 mm. For off-road driving, it has a 30.4-degree approach angle, 22.6-degree ramp breakover angle and 25.8-degree departure angle. Mitsubishi has achieved a 52:48 front-to-rear weight distribution.

2.4L Diesel Produces 480 Nm
Under the bonnet is a specially developed 2.4-litre clean diesel engine using a single variable geometry turbocharger. Mitsubishi has not disclosed peak power in the announcement, but confirms maximum torque of 480 Nm. The engine is paired with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode.

Rather than moving to a road-biased monocoque architecture, Mitsubishi has retained a ladder-frame chassis for new Pajero. Increased use of high-tensile steel has helped reduce weight while improvements to the frame’s cross-sectional area increase torsional and bending rigidity.
Suspension comprises an independent double-wishbone arrangement at the front and a newly developed five-link rigid axle at the rear. Mitsubishi says ride comfort over broken surfaces was an important part of development, with “off-road comfort” established as one of the engineering benchmarks.

Super Select 4WD-II With Low Range
New Pajero gets Mitsubishi’s familiar Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) system along with S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control. Drivers can select between four drivetrain settings. Large 18-inch brake rotors and an electric brake booster are also part of the package.
2H operates in rear-wheel drive, while 4H provides full-time four-wheel drive. For more difficult terrain, 4HLc locks the centre differential, while 4LLc combines the locked centre differential with low-range gearing.
New Mitsubishi Pajero Dimensions
This is important because new Pajero retains proper low-range hardware rather than relying solely on electronically controlled terrain modes. S-AWC integrates Active Yaw Control, stability and traction control and ABS to manage driving and braking forces across the four wheels. There are also seven selectable drive modes – Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.
Three-Row 7-Seater Interior
New Pajero continues as a proper family SUV with a three-row, seven-seat configuration. The second row offers 150 mm of sliding adjustment and a tumble mechanism for third-row access. Mitsubishi says the third row has been designed with sufficient headroom for adults, along with foot space extending underneath the second-row seats.

Front and second-row seats are designed for additional support on longer journeys. Seat ventilation is available, along with three-zone automatic climate control covering all three rows. Cabin refinement has also received considerable attention. Acoustic glass is used not only for the windshield but also the front and rear door windows, accompanied by additional sound insulation throughout the body.
Twin 14.3-Inch Screens
Technology represents one of the biggest departures from previous Pajero generations. The dashboard incorporates a monolithic display containing two 14.3-inch screens. Despite the digital layout, Mitsubishi has incorporated visual references to old Pajero instrumentation.
New Mitsubishi Pajero
This includes a digital recreation of the famous Pajero triple-meter arrangement through the new Multi-Meter display. Information available includes altitude, compass direction, temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles and Active Yaw Control status. There are also 16 selectable display backgrounds that can change according to the time of day. Wireless smartphone connectivity is supported through Smartphone-link Display Audio.
ADAS, Eight Airbags And MI-PILOT
Safety equipment has also moved considerably forward. New Pajero gets eight airbags, including Mitsubishi’s first centre airbag between the front occupants. ADAS features include Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian, cyclist and motorcycle detection, junction assistance, Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication.
New Mitsubishi Pajero
Emergency Lane Assist makes its Mitsubishi debut on Pajero, using camera and radar data to provide warnings and steering assistance when a potential lane-departure collision is detected. Front Cross Traffic Alert is also available. Mitsubishi’s MI-PILOT combines adaptive cruise control and Lane Keep Assist for assisted single-lane highway driving.
Another useful addition for an off-road SUV is the 3D Multi Around Monitor. Four cameras generate a 360-degree representation of the vehicle’s surroundings, while a front under-floor view allows drivers to see terrain immediately underneath and ahead of the SUV. The under-floor view can automatically activate when 4HLc or 4LLc is selected.
New Mitsubishi Pajero Features
12-Speaker Yamaha Audio System
New Pajero gets a Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system jointly developed with Yamaha. It comprises 12 speakers and dual amplifiers. The system can automatically compensate for increasing road noise by adjusting volume and audio characteristics according to vehicle speed.
Mitsubishi Connect adds remote vehicle functions including climate-control operation and vehicle-status monitoring, along with emergency SOS assistance.

New Pajero India Launch?
There is no India launch confirmation at this stage. Pajero has significant brand recognition in India, where previous generations developed a strong following among SUV enthusiasts. Mitsubishi’s passenger vehicle operations in India have since ended, making any potential return considerably more complicated than simply introducing the new model.
Nevertheless, new Pajero represents a notable return to the fundamentals that established the nameplate. At a time when many flagship SUVs are moving towards road-oriented architectures and electrified powertrains, Mitsubishi has retained a ladder frame, diesel engine, low-range 4WD, rigid rear axle and seven-seat configuration, while bringing the cabin, safety and connectivity technology firmly into the current generation.
