New Hyundai SUV: Mini-Creta Coming Soon?
In the teaser, Hyundai has confirmed the upcoming SUV will be called Bayon. This makes things quite interesting. This is because Hyundai has been selling a model called the Bayon internationally for quite some time. To explain its relevance and product positioning, it is to the i20 what the Fronx is to the Baleno – a crossover body on a hatchback’s underpinnings.
However, it seems Hyundai is only borrowing the Bayon name for its upcoming Indian SUV; it is expected to be quite different from the international-spec Bayon crossover. So what do we know so far?

What We Know So Far
Based on the prototype spy shots, it’s safe to say the Bayon will not be a sub-4-metre option. It would be unwise for Hyundai to launch another sub-4-metre SUV that could eat into the Venue’s sales. The Bayon could measure just over four metres long, making it a perfect fit between the Venue and the Creta (especially since the new-gen Creta is expected to get bigger). Expect the Bayon’s cabin to match, or be heavily inspired by, the Venue’s.

Hyundai Bayon Engine Options
On this front, the Bayon will play a crucial role in Hyundai’s India line-up. Based on media reports so far, the Bayon will target mileage-conscious buyers, not performance enthusiasts. At the launch, it is likely to get Creta’s 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol engine (113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque), with six-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. The same engine will reportedly also be available with the brand’s factory-fitted underbody CNG setup. This could make the Bayon the first Hyundai SUV in India (over four metres long) to get a CNG powertrain. We expect confirmation closer to the Bayon’s launch.
A Bayon N Line turbo-petrol version could be on the cards, but its launch may depend entirely on market demand and response.

Hyundai Bayon Expected Price and Launch
Given that the Bayon will slot between the Venue and Creta, we expect it to be priced somewhere in the Rs. 10-14 lakh range (on-road, Mumbai). We expect Hyundai to reveal the production-ready car by the end of October 2026.
