The Japanese automaker, Honda, has already announced plans to expand its India lineup with new launches. The brand has also stated that it is readying a new mid-size SUV and a compact SUV. Honda has not shared any specific details about this upcoming product yet; however, it has said that this SUV will be built keeping Indian consumer needs in mind. At present, Honda does not have any sub-4m SUV in its portfolio; it only has the Amaze, which is a compact sedan. Moreover, with the compact SUVs getting the GST benefits, entering this segment could play a huge role in increasing the brand’s sales.
However, it is still not clear how Honda will carve out this SUV. It might carry the features from the Amaze itself. We expect this SUV to be built on Honda’s global small car platform, underpinned by the Amaze, and even carry the same 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. Previously, Honda had the WR-V SUV in this segment, so the compact SUV segment isn’t a completely new thing for the brand.
The launch of this SUV will still take some time; expect testing to start by 2027, with a launch later that year or by early 2028. Now, Honda will surely look to take advantage of the GST benefits and even price this SUV quite competitively. We expect this upcoming Honda to be priced between Rs. 9 lakh – Rs. 17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

What Else?
Alongside this new sub-compact SUV, Honda has laid out a plan of launching 10 new cars by 2030. This involves a mid-size SUV, which could be the Honda 0 Alpha, expected to launch by late 2027, and other imported models. Interestingly, the brand has stated that seven of these 10 launches will be SUVs. In the short term, Honda is also gearing up to launch the updated version of the Elevate.
