After the launch of the Duster, Renault will be looking to further build on the Duster hype by bringing in a 7-seater version of it – the Boreal. Here are 5 things to know.

Renault Boreal – Better Looking Than The Duster?

You may expect that the 7-seater version of the Duster would look completely identical to the standard Duster, but you would be wrong. The Boreal, already on sale in European markets, might be based on the Duster, but it bears very little resemblance to it. It sports a striking and sharp design language, which is contrary to the butch and rugged stance of the Duster.

Powertrain

The Boreal is expected to be offered with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.8-litre petrol hybrid. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol from the Duster may seem a bit underpowered for a 4.55m-long SUV. Furthermore, Renault has also revealed that its RGMP platform, on which the Boreal and Duster are based, is compatible with 4WD, suggesting that a 4WD drivetrain is a real possibility with the Boreal.

Renault Boreal – Features

It would share plenty of features with the Duster. Some of the expected amenities include a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, electric tailgate, wireless charging, 10.1-inch infotainment screen, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Aside from the 3rd row of seats, the Boreal will be hard to distinguish from the Duster.

Expected Pricing & Rivals

The Boreal is expected to be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This means it would compete against the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and the Mahindra XUV7XO. While the Boreal could offer a similar feature list, its top variants could be significantly cheaper than those of the rivals. After all, the only way for Renault to keep up with the giants like the XUV7XO and Safari would be by undercutting them.
