Nissan Tekton SUV Teased
Nissan India has officially confirmed that its upcoming midsize SUV, Tekton, will make its global debut on 9th July in Mumbai. Along with the announcement, Nissan has released a fresh teaser that labels the SUV as the “Baby Patrol”, hinting at the inspiration behind its design and positioning.
The teaser showcases Tekton alongside the full-size Nissan Patrol, drawing attention to the family resemblance between the two SUVs. This is the clearest indication yet that Nissan wants the Tekton to carry some of the visual DNA and rugged appeal associated with its iconic flagship SUV.

‘Baby Patrol’ Positioning Revealed
The latest teaser highlights a front-end silhouette that appears heavily inspired by larger Nissan SUVs. Visible elements include a wide grille, upright stance, horizontal lighting signatures and bold proportions. TEKTON lettering stretches across the bonnet, while the front fascia gets a full-width light bar connected to the illuminated Nissan logo.
By referring to the SUV as a “Baby Patrol”, Nissan seems to be positioning Tekton as a rugged and aspirational offering in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, similar to how brands often leverage larger flagship models to enhance the appeal of smaller vehicles.
Designed To Stand Out In The Midsize SUV Segment
Based on earlier teasers and recent spy shots, Tekton adopts a boxy profile with a flat roofline, muscular wheel arches and substantial body cladding. The SUV appears larger and more upright than many rivals, helping it establish a distinct identity against competitors such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Renault Duster and Tata Sierra.
Nissan Tekton Spied
Recent test mules revealed several production-ready design elements including C-shaped LED lighting signatures, connected tail lamps, roof rails and large alloy wheels. Nissan has also given the SUV its own front and rear styling treatment, differentiating it from Renault Duster despite sharing the same platform underneath.
Inside, Tekton is expected to share much of its equipment list with the new Renault Duster while featuring unique upholstery, trim finishes and cabin themes. Expected features include dual digital displays, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone climate control and connected car technology. Safety equipment is likely to include six airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera and a comprehensive ADAS suite on higher variants.

Shared Powertrains With Duster
Nissan Tekton is expected to use the same engine options as the new Duster. Entry-level variants could be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 100 PS and 160 Nm, paired with a manual gearbox. Higher trims are likely to get the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine generating 163 PS and 280 Nm, available with both manual and DCT transmission options. Nissan is also expected to introduce a strong hybrid powertrain at a later stage, similar to plans announced for Duster.
Tekton will play a crucial role in Nissan’s revival strategy in India. Following the launch of Gravite MPV earlier this year, the company is now focusing on strengthening its SUV portfolio, with Tekton positioned as one of its most important products in recent years. With the global premiere now confirmed for 9th July, more details about design, features, specifications and launch timelines are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
