We had already reported that Skoda is evaluating CNG powertrains for its models. This is mainly due to the growing demand for CNG models in India. Now, ahead of that, we came across a CNG-powered Skoda Kylaq that offers an impressive mileage of nearly 22 km/kg. Here’s everything you need to know about the Skoda Kylaq CNG. Attention Readers! Skoda Kylaq CNG: What’s New?

Even before the brand introduced a CNG kit for its SUV, aftermarket car modifiers came up with this idea. We recently came across a site that provides and fits an aftermarket CNG kit for the Kylaq. This kit pairs with a turbo petrol engine and can be fitted across all Kylaq variants. What’s interesting here is that this CNG kit, paired with a turbo petrol engine, also supports automatic transmission.

Speaking of mileage, after fitting the CNG kit, the Kylaq is expected to deliver 18-20 km/kg (city) and 22-25 km/kg (highway). While this is a direct mileage increase over what the Kylaq offers with a normal turbo petrol engine, installing CNG may affect the power figures. Also, installing a cylinder in the boot would reduce usable boot space.

The site quotes CNG installation prices ranging from Rs. 1.05 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh, depending on the car specifications, CNG kit selection, and other factors. The final cost also includes RTO and paperwork duty.

A CNG kit on the Kylaq could be a good option for those who want a German SUV without compromising on mileage. Moreover, paired with the Kylaq’s turbo petrol engine, the car won’t feel much underpowered, either. However, installing an aftermarket CNG kit may affect your warranty. Also, in the long term, this installation might affect the engine’s condition. So, the tempting mileage figure comes at the cost of reliability and a fun driving experience.

Note: MotorOctane does not promote any aftermarket CNG installations. If any interested buyers plan to fit an aftermarket CNG kit, it will be at their own risk.

Skoda Is Already Evaluating Dealer-Level CNG Installation

Suppose you don’t want to risk fitting an aftermarket CNG kit with the Kylaq. Skoda is already evaluating a retrofitted dealer-level CNG for its models. It’s in the planning stage now and will take some time to roll out. But it would be a safer option than rushing into an aftermarket CNG kit installation that might also void the warranty.
