Cheapest 4X4 In India – Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Maruti Jimny often gets overlooked in such lists despite being one of the most capable off-roaders in the market. The Jimny is offered with 4WD as standard, and the pricing starts from Rs 14.57 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), making it the cheapest 4WD in the country.

The 4WD drivetrain is mated to a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. This engine may not be the most powerful, but the Jimny’s great dynamics are enough to pull it through tough spots. 4WD may be standard across the range, but you do have the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic.

Mahindra Thar/ Thar Roxx

The Thar and its 5-door version, the Thar Roxx, are the most popular models on this list. The Thar 4×4 range starts from Rs 18.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.88 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). As for the Thar Roxx, 4×4 is available from the MX5 variant, which starts at Rs 23.58 lakh.

Interestingly, the Thar 3-door 4WD is offered with 2 engine options – 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel, while the Thar Roxx gets 4WD only on its 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both models are offered with the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter on 4WD variants.

Cheapest 4X4 In India – Mahindra Scorpio N

Surprisingly, only the Scorpio N is offered with a 4WD drivetrain, while Mahindra has stopped offering 4WD on the Classic. Luckily, the 4WD is available on the lower Z4 variant, making it accessible. The 4WD range starts at Rs 22.10 lakh and can exceed Rs 30 lakh.

The 4WD is only available with the 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Force Gurkha

Like the Thar, the Gurkha is offered in 3-door and 5-door configurations. And in both configurations, 4WD comes as standard. Pricing for the Gurkha starts from Rs 19.87 lakh, and the 5-door versions cost Rs 21.44 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Gurkha is powered by a Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine. Moreover, the Gurkha is the only car in this list to not offer an automatic option, as it gets a 5-speed manual as standard.

Cheapest 4X4 In India – Isuzu V-Cross

The Isuzu V-Cross is the only pickup truck in this list, and edges out the Toyota Hilux by around Rs 3 lakh. The V-Cross pricing range starts from Rs 31.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and all variants get 4WD as standard.

The V-Cross is powered by a capable 1.8-litre diesel engine and is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. However, keep in mind that the V-Cross is quite an outdated product, and you would be sacrificing luxuries for the off-road capabilities.
