Fortuner Legender For The Price Of XUV 7XO

The Fortuner Legender is the cream of the Fortuner crop. And we have stumbled across this gem of a 2023 Fortuner Legender being listed at Rs 30 lakh. It is a first-owner vehicle with only 27,000 km on the odo. In Toyota’s language, it is as good as new. In comparison, if you were to buy it new, it would cost you Rs 53 lakh (on-road price in Mumbai). This unit seems to have lost around 44-45% of its value in less than 3 years, which is surprisingly high. So should you take advantage of this depreciation, or is the deal too good to be true?

What’s The Catch?

On the surface level, there seems to be no catch. Since it is a September 2023 unit, it is still under its original 3-year warranty. You could also opt for the extended warranty if the current owner hasn’t. You could have worry-free ownership for the next 2 years, at the very least. Furthermore, it is a Toyota. Even after the warranty expires, Fortuners are built to last an eternity. Nonetheless, if you are planning to buy it, have it checked by a trusted mechanic and pay close attention to whether the car is accident- or water-damaged.

The Fortuner might be reliable, but service costs and spare parts are still rather high. Tyre replacement, DPF replacement, newer suspension and other similiar changes could be quite expensive. So be prepared to spend a bit on the servicing and other such repairs. On top of this, also keep your pockets ready for the money you will be spending on fuel. The 10-11 km/l figure is a sacrifice you make for the power.

When you think of the Fortuner, its off-roading capabilities are the first thing to pop up in your mind. But the same can’t be said of this unit, as it is a bog-standard 4×2 version. On the outside, very few would notice that this isn’t the top-of-the-line model, but the lack of a terrain selector (for the 4H and 4L modes) would be quite evident on the inside.

Features & Specifications

This unit is powered by the trusted 2.8-litre diesel motor that churns out 204bhp & 500 Nm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed AT. Being a BS6 model, you obviously have to worry about the DPF issues, but other than that, there are no evident shortcomings of this engine. Toyota’s diesel engines are fabled for their everlasting nature, and the same applies to the 2.8-litre one.

It also gets a fair number of features, including an 8-inch infotainment screen, powered front seats, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, electric tailgate, and much more. This equipment list may not be as extensive as that of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, but you do get rewarded with obvious factors like reliability, brand value and road presence. In fact, the price for this Legender is so impressive that you could possibly sell it in a few months for a small profit.
