Toyota, in collaboration with Maruti, has launched many models, gaining a foothold in the Indian market by expanding its portfolio. Their lineup grew stronger with the addition of Rumion, Taisor, and the Invicto. However, after the launch of the Ebella, Toyota is planning something big for the market. Curious? The upcoming Toyota MPV will be heavily based on the same architecture as the Maruti YMC, which itself is derived from the e-Vitara’s HEARTECT-e platform. It means the vehicle is built on a dedicated EV platform rather than an ICE-converted one, and would have a flat-floor design for better cabin space, as we saw on the Urban Cruiser Ebella. The vehicle is expected to have a better weight distribution and strong structural rigidity. In short, it will be a proper ground-up electric MPV/Crossover. While the core structure remains identical, Toyota will make its own tweaks to the vehicle, such as a revised front fascia with signature grille styling. The vehicle could be slightly sharper with more premium design cues. Expect a unique alloy wheel design and lighting setup as well!

Things get interesting here because Toyota would keep the underpinnings the same as the E-Vitara and the YMC. The MPV could come with 3 battery options-

49 kWh battery pack with approximately 440 km range

61 kWh battery pack with 543 km range

Like its siblings, the vehicle is expected to have a front-mounted motor setup

Since the vehicle is coming with the YMC and the e-Vitara lineup, we can expect a strong feature set. The vehicle could get ventilated seats, 10-way powered driver’s seats, and dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and the cluster. A fixed glass sunroof could also be offered. Wireless charging, premium cabin materials and Level 2 ADAS for safety. With this vehicle, Toyota would be properly stepping into the mainstream premium EV game

The platform on which the vehicle will be made already targets strong safety credentials. The vehicle could come with 6 airbags as standard and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). And the most interesting thing is that the vehicle could get a high crash safety rating, as the e-Vitara did.

Toyota could make a smart move here. Maruti targets mass-market family buyers. Toyota would likely position this vehicle as a slightly premium and aspirational model. With this, Toyota would be able to target a different segment of buyers for the vehicle. Toyota can provide strong service support, and the brands Toyota and Suzuki give a trusted feel, as they are reliable, so people can have a trusted, long-term, reliable EV in the garage.

As for the launch details, the Maruti YMC is expected around late 2026 to early 2027, so the Toyota version could come shortly after. The vehicle is expected to come with a price tag of ₹19 lakh to ₹23 lakh on the road in Mumbai.

This MPV wouldn’t be just a rebadge. This could be a proper combination of Maruti engineering and Toyota positioning. It is a proven formula for both brands. If the vehicle is priced right, it can dominate the 7-seater EV space with strong reliability and EV tech.
