Yamaha R2 Bookings Open
Yamaha has officially commenced bookings for its upcoming fully-faired R-series motorcycle ahead of its scheduled launch on August 27, 2026. While the company has not revealed the motorcycle’s name, the teaser campaign and previous developments strongly suggest that this is the much-anticipated Yamaha R2.
Bookings have gone live on Yamaha India’s official website with a token amount of Rs 10,000. The teaser prominently features the signature “R” logo along with the tagline “We R On Our Way” and the hashtag #RInstinct, confirming that the upcoming launch belongs to Yamaha’s R-series lineup.

Yamaha R2 launch appears imminent
The launch date listed on the booking page is August 27, 2026, matching the media invite shared by Yamaha earlier. The booking page also states that the final variant, specifications and pricing will be revealed only after the official launch. Customers who pre-book will get priority delivery, while bookings remain refundable if they choose not to proceed with the purchase.
Although Yamaha has not officially confirmed the model name, the R2 remains the strongest possibility. The Yamaha R2 trademark has already been filed in India as well as several international markets including Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the Philippines. Industry reports have also indicated that the motorcycle is being developed specifically to bridge the gap between the R15 and R3.

Teaser may be hinting at the R2 name
The latest teaser could also be subtly hinting at the motorcycle’s name. At first glance, Yamaha has simply used its familiar “R” branding with the message “We R On Our Way”. However, a closer look at the stylised logo shows the right-hand section extending into a shape that closely resembles the numeral “2”.
While Yamaha has not officially confirmed the name, the teaser appears to deliberately blur the line between the R-series logo and the number 2. Combined with the earlier R2 trademark filings in India and several overseas markets, this strengthens speculation that the upcoming motorcycle will indeed be called YZF-R2. If intentional, it would be a clever way for Yamaha to tease the model name without explicitly revealing it ahead of the August 27 launch.

Expected to be locally manufactured
Unlike the imported R3, the upcoming R2 is expected to be manufactured at Yamaha’s Chennai facility. Local production could allow Yamaha to price the motorcycle competitively against rivals such as KTM RC 200, Hero Karizma XMR 210 and Bajaj Pulsar RS200, while also making it suitable for export markets.
The motorcycle is believed to be internally codenamed 070 and is expected to share its underpinnings with the R15 V4. This could include the proven Deltabox frame, upside-down front forks, rear monoshock and dual-channel ABS.

What to expect?
While official specifications remain under wraps, the Yamaha R2 is expected to use a larger version of Yamaha’s existing liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. Output is expected to be around 25 PS and 20 Nm, placing it directly in the 200 cc sportbike segment.
The feature list could include Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, traction control, assist and slipper clutch, quick shifter, full-colour TFT instrument console and Y-Connect smartphone connectivity. Features such as call and message alerts, ride statistics, maintenance reminders and last parked location are also expected. Price is expected to be in the Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh range.
